Even if not supported from Oracle, is it possible? Thanks a lot. 64 bits was not a supported, not even planned platform for 8i.

It can work, I once worked with 8i on a Win3K server, 8.1.7.4.0, so far, so good. Just for the pourposes of the tests I performed. But as long as it is not supported, it can turn your installation into a mine field. Good Morning.I saw your topic / subject of conversation is on Oracle 8i on Windows Server 2003.I have a similar situation of installing Oracle 8i on Windows Server 2003 (32 bit). All I have to install is just Oracle Client, I don't need to install / maintain oracle database. Can you please send me some instructions?

Appreciate your help.I tried to install it from the local directory (software is copied on to a directory) on the server, but it is not going forward by showing me the componenets that i want to install.Any help will be appreciated.Thanks,Satish. May be you have hit an old 'Just In Time Library' bug. Are you working with an Intel CPU.Installation won't work directly from disk. This is the workaround:1. Copy the contents of the install cd to a directory on the hard disk.2. Look for all occurrences of the symcjit.dll file3.

Rename it to whatever, for example symcjit.bak4. Retry installation.Let me know the result. Hi,Good Afternoon. Thanks for your suggestion. Here is an update:I have renamed the 'symcjit.dll' file as per your note and starting the installation process again. This time the oracle installer came up and tried to install the products.I tried to install the client on my D drive (d:oracleora81).The source path was showing as 'drive letter:oracleoracle 8istageproducts.jar'.While loading the products information, I got an error message which stopped me going further in the installation process. Below is the error:'Invalid Staging Area. There are no top level componenets for Windows NT available for install from this staging area. 'Any suggestion or help will be greately appreciated.Thanks,Satish.

Is it the Client only disk or the server dist? 'Invalid Staging Area. There are no top level components for Windows NT available for install from this staging area.' This is Oracle's way of saying nothing on this CD can be installed on Windows NT (or Windows 2000)You can only install on a Windows 98 OS, not on NT (or equivalent). If you are trying to install the client, don't use the client disk, use the server disk and select the administrative client.

Hi,Good Morning.Just want to give you some update on my issue. We got hold of Oracle 9i software and installed the client to resolve our issues. Thanks for your time.Satish. Ok, you're welcome.

I'm having a problem installing this version on my computer. I downloaded the 3 file version from the website, and I cannot complete the installation. I keep getting this error partway through the installation:'Please insert Oracle 9i disk 2 into your disk drive or specify an alternative location.'

Ghostsurf platinum 2007 v4.1.4.0 with serial. That's how much we trust our unbeatable service. This special offer gives you full member access to our downloads.

Of course, I have no second disk because I just downloaded the files from the site. I tried specifying another location, but that doesn't make the error go away. Can anyone please help? Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but I was surfing the web for solutions to this problem, and I found another message board where a user wrote that this database doesn't always work on XP Home, just XP Pro. Could this be the source of the problem? I believe that it only works on XP Pro. Make sure that you performed the following:1. Download 3 zip files to 3 diff dir2.

Unzip each of them3. Run set.exe from Disk 1 Hi,Neil is right. Oracle 9i was never certified for XP Home. But it seems that anybody installed Oracle on this OS.Try to unzip this three files into disk1, disk2 and Disk3 directory. And run setup.exe from disk1 directory.

Problems become later.Nicolas. Thanks for the help everyone. Unfortunately, Oracle won't work. Unfortunately, Oracle won't workCan you explain?Anyway, I strongly advise you to install XP Pro instead of XP Home.Nicolas. It still keeps throwing this error:'Please insert Oracle 9i disk 2 into your disk drive or specify an alternative location.' This error pops up right after I get to the page where it details all of the things to be installed and how much space it will take up.Also, because I'm a college student, I currently don't have the finances to get XP Pro.

The problem is not from the OS version, although Oracle is not certified for home edition, but I know few peaple have installed it successfully (thoughh I haven't tried it).Try copying the unzipped files onto CDs and install it from the CDs. Might do the trick.everyone I know have installed it from CDsso your problem might be the unzipping or the OUI isn't finding the other folders.Tony Garabedian #TonyThe problem is not from the OS versionPerhaps, but I had install Oracle 9i with this three zip file on Win XP Pro and Win 2000 without any problem.#user456032Try a free OS like linux.Nicolas. #user456032Try a free OS like linux.Where's the difference between unsupported OS A and unsupported OS B?Oracle only certifies Linux Enterprise Editions and does it with good reason.

Oracle only certifies Linux Enterprise Editionsoradba,You're right. It's because saturday.Nicolas. Although Unsupported on Win XP Home Edition, I've seen it running on a friend's laptop on saturday, but with poor performance. Which will be enough for learning Oracle basics on it.I will test it myself tonight (Hope I don't ruin my laptop:)) wish me luck!! )Tony Garabedian. Greetings all.

I am totally new to Oracle and have been attempting to install a copy Oracle8 personal edition on my thinkpad laptop but I get an installation error which simply causes the whole thing to stop. I am thinking that it is simply that the version is not supported by W2k.if this is the case can someone please tell me which version works on W2k and Win XP. As I am a total novice to this any advise is gratefully appreciated.kind regards.Dave. Installer does not start? If it is Pentium 4, you need to copy cd (if you have it on CD) to hard drive & ammend setup ini file to disable symantec jit compiler, also to rename two dlls called symjit.dll to f.e. Symjit.oldDon't remember details, probably it is somewhere around:) My is Win2k and I installed the oracle 9i on my computer, it is also P4. It worked well.

Oracle 8i For Windows 2003 2

But I didn't install it on WinXP, I failed. I don't know why.

Oracle 8i Windows Server 2003

Windows XP is not supported by Oracle prior to 9i, so if you are installing 9.x it should be fine, IF it is Windows XP Professional, not XP Home. XP Home is not supported. I'm having the same issue with installing 8.1.7 on Dell Latitude P4.Run setup, but nothing happens. I copied the CD to the hard drive, looked for setup.ini and the symxxx.dlls, but there are no files of these names.

Not even a setup.ini.Anybody have any ideas on how to get around this?I heard there was a patch for this within Oracle but I cannot find any info on it other than a few posts reporting problems. If the patch is out there, they hid it well.Any help is appreciated.Scott. HiI am new to Oracle. First time when I installed Oracle 8i into my NT server 4.0 sp5, it went soothly. For some reasons, I had to remove Oracle 8i from my system and manually removed as per instructions contained in Chapter 8.

Oracle 8i software, free download For Windows 7 32 Bit

After rebooting I ran Typical installion of Oracle 8i again. First I got an error message 'Error in writing to file c:winntsystem32msvcrt.dll' which was 'ignored' and the installation continued. It went to about 60% (I read a product info 'Thank you for using Oracle' also)and closed itself without any information as to whether the installation was successful or not. When I checked the installed products, it said no products installed. I repeated the above procedure two time more.

Still the same result.1. What is the implication for the error message regarding msvcrt.dll?2. What went wrong in my installation? My hardware has Pentium III 500 and 128MB Ram.Can anyone help?ThnaksSabesan As I know, the msvcrt.dll is the Microsoft Visual C run time dll(I guess), Oracle may need it for some program execution. What have you installed in your PC?

Because I am using WinNT 4.0 server with SP5, I have no problem with the 8i installation. We have installed MS Office97 in the PC. Should I remove this to install Oracle? How come then first time installation was successful? I also am using NT and have successfully installed Oracle8i. Have you tried to de-install all Oracle products cleanly and completely instead of manually wiping out the orant directory? After that is done, then try the install again.

Oracle 8i Software For Windows 7 32 Bit Windows 7

I am getting the following error when I ren a vb.net application from windows server 2003. The application queries then inserts or updates a handfull of records.ERROR NA000 MicrosoftODBC driver for OracleOracleORA-04031: unable to allocate 4216 bytes of shared memory ('shared pool','unknown object','sga heap','library cache')What is so strange about this error is, I have this exact application running on an XP box, and I don't get the error. I wanted to move the app from the XP box to windows server 2003. When I did, I got this error. The app uses an odbc connection. I had to install oracle 8i and use the net8 configuration assistant. I did that, and all seems to be ok.
