- Donald Duck-Quack Attack brings the speech-impaired duck to life on the N64 via Ubi Soft. The most attractive element of the game will be Donald's various moods: determination and frustration, agitation and exhaustion will all factor into the gameplay in one way or another. DD Quack Attack arrives in your gentle hands this fall.

Early Loading Screens
A number of early loading screens exist in the game. A lot of them are renders from early levels and some of them are used in the early Donald Duck Demo prototype. These loading screens were meant to be used for each level, including the bosses and chase stages, but all levels use the same loading screen per world in the final.
Ducky Mountain
trail.gf (Forest Edge)
forest_1_b.gf (Dangerous Cliff)
brush.gf (The Track)
thehike.gf (The Gorge)
forestchase.gf (Bear Path)
forestboss.gf (Bernadette)
The forestchase picture shows an early and unfinished version of the Bear Path. Some previews are also mixed with the forestchase picture for some reason.
Duckburg
SIDEWALK.gf (First Avenue)
EDGE.gf (Urban High-Rises)
city_2_b.gf (Roof Tops)
roof.gf (The Roofs)
citychase.gf (Main Street)
city_boss.gf (Beagle Boy)
The first two pictures are used in the Donald Duck Demo. city_2_b shows the stage in rain, which isn't the case in the final. city_2_b and SIDEWALK also have a mixture from the unused inca_4_2 screen for whatever reason.
Magica DeSpell's Manor
HAUNTEd3-1.gf (Haunted Hall)
haunted_3_3.gf (Ghostly Path)
HAUNTED3B.gf (Creepy Corridor)
Haunted_3_2.gf (Earie Alley)
housech.gf (Under'Hand'ed)
houseboss.gf (Magica DeSpell)
HAUNTEd3-1 and HAUNTED3B are used in the Donald Duck Demo. The houseboss shows a different battle stage, similar to the GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions. Again, some of them are somehow mixed with the inca_4_2 screen.
Merlock's Temple
inca_4_1.gf (Temple's Entrance)
inca_4_3.gf (Ancient Fate)
inca_4_b.gf (Murky Way)
inca_4_2.gf (Artifact Way)
incachase.gf (Head Alley)
incaboss.gf (Merlock)
inca_4_2 is the screen, that is slightly mixed into some other loading screens. Also the incaboss shows a different boss battle stage, also similar to the GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions.
Donald_load.gf
Probably the earliest loading screen of all, as it can be found in the Proto, but without the 'DDPC991119-v0002' on the top screen.
mapmonde.gf
A very early loading screen for Gyro's Labor. This is also similar to the PlayStation version.
load_menu1.gf
Used |
---|
An alternative version of the menu's loading screen, with different lighting and a better portrait of Gyro.
Unused Textures
Check Box
b_chek_p.gf
b_normale.gf
Textures for a wooden box with a C on it. Depicting its filenames, this was some kind of checking something?
Sprayed Wooden Floor
X_boss.gf
X_breezy.gf
X_creepy.gf
X_drooly
X_scary.gf
X_spooky.gf
Wooden textures with some words on it. These can be found in Gyro's labor's files, so they may were used as placeholders for some stages?
mur1.gf
A portrait of Donald in... baby clothes? Yes of course!
E3 Leftover
X_plant01.gf
X_plant02.gf
X_plant03.gf
X_plant04.gf
An E3 logo consisting of 4 lousy parts. Doesn't look quite good, when putting them together:
Unused Icons
Nephew Dialogue Icons
HLP_HueyNZ.gf
HLP_DeweyNZ.gf
HLP_louieNZ.gf
Donald Duck Quack Attack Pc
Early dialogue icons for Donald's nephews.
Gladstone Dialogue Icon
Also an early dialogue icon for Donald's rival Gladstone.
Donald Icon
An icon for Donald, also meant for dialogues. But Donald ironically doesn't say anything in the whole game, except for the cutscenes. It was later used in the Game Boy Color version in the main menu.
Roller Skates
An icon of roller skates can be found within the other toy icons. Interestingly, this can't be found in the Donald Duck Demo, but all the other toy icons can be found there, so this was probably introduced and then scrapped in late development.
bonus_nz.gf
Found in the files for Gyro's laboratory. This was probably planned to appear, when unlocking the chase stages.
Development Icons
center.gf
curseur_nz.gf
curseur_nz_drag.gf
Some icons, most likely used for debug features.
Misc
Continue.gf
Some sort of a continue screen. However, the final simply resets the game ultimately, when all lifes are gone.
Gameover.gf
A very early game over screen. The final uses a small videoclip, if Donald loses all his lives.
Donald Pictures
Determine-small.gf
hyperactive-small.gf
Some pictures of Donald. Depicting its filenames, these pictures have something to do with Donald's health.
European Logo
qalogo.gf
qalogo1.gf
The European logos with white backgrounds. The second one has a different position and a slightly different size.

Gyro telling Donald about the costume machine. However, the machine itself tells Donald, how it works, so this goes unused and is even translated into the other languages.

The Italian message from Magica DeSpell before the fight, but without the echo effect and with laughing.

Donald Duck's Playground
DOS - 1985
Also available on: Commodore 64 - Amiga - Atari ST - Apple II
Description of Donald Duck's Playground
Donald Duck's Playground is one of the best early edutainment titles, designed by Al Lowe for Sierra based on Disney characters that's unfortunately not as well known as its contemporary Black Cauldron, Donald Duck's Playground is nevertheless a charming collection of mini-games, mostly arcade-oriented, for kids.
The abundance of humor and surprises in these creative mini-games more than make up for the lack of plot or traditional adventure-style puzzles. The plot is simple: you are Donald Duck, who must work to buy toys for your nephew to enjoy. Despite the lack of ending, the mini-games are all a lot of fun. The game is based on Sierra's AGI engine (King's Quest 3 etc.), which makes the graphics and animation outstanding ( for 1988 at least).
Of special note to game historians is the fact that this was the very first EGA game Al Lowe designed at Sierra On-Line. Thumbs up, way up!

Fantastic game from my childhood. I still have the original PCjr disk. I had a blast playing this. It's a bit slow, by modern standards, but you must work and then buy pieces for a kids playground. Totally fun and definitely worth it.

This game seems to have issues running, at least for me. Keys act as if they are being held down, and the game runs way too fast. I can fix the speed issue with ctrl + F11, but not the keys issue. Anyone else having this problem? Other games work fine for me.

Now this brings back some memories!
My 1st Grade teacher had an old IBM PC and an Apple II back in the corner of her classroom, and I was really the only one who played with it. They had the floppy for this game for the Apple II version, but no Joystick to play it with :(

Another classic I used to play on My C64. The pc version (EGA) is wonderful, more stuff than in C64 version. CGA version is a bit poor on the graphics side.
Great game for children, still playable and amusing. Awesome music by Al Lowe!
